This year’s Festival Of Lights is only in its third night, so Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin are just getting started with their now-annual “Hanukkah Sessions” series. Last year, they passed the time while in lockdown by covering eight Jewish artists in honor of Hanukkah’s eight nights, and they’re doing it again this year. Following up on Sunday with Lisa Loeb’s legendary “Stay” and yesterday with The Ramones’ jumpy “Blitzkrieg Bop,” they’ve switched gears today and are performing Barry Manilow’s classic “Copacabana.”
Grohl and Kurstin, as you might guess, are more than ready to ham it up to the campy popular track, which is the kind of song that everyone likes to sing along to at a bar, and both wore glittery suit jackets to pull it off. Dave, obviously, takes on the signature role of Barry, with tons of bongos, bells, keyboard, and drums, while interstitial scenes show him also playing the drums. It’s just more musical fun with these two, who can pull off covers with a little tinsel, a piano, and a drum kit that most people can only dream of.
