On Sunday, the world was devastated to learn that Virgil Abloh, a designer and DJ, had died at the age of 41. After a secret fight with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, he passed away. “He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art, and culture,” according to a post on Abloh’s Instagram page. His death prompted many to express their condolences on social media, the most recent being Kid Cudi, who wrote a lengthy message honoring Abloh on Instagram.
“It’s taken me a few days to make this post,” Cudi wrote with a carousel of images featuring him and Abloh. “Tryna find the right words. Virgil was the kindest most warmest soul I’ve ever met. He was a true visionary, genius, disrupter, epic DJ and artist, but he was also just truly a beautiful human.” He continued:
He’s the most unique person I’ve ever met. And I know I’ll never be able to do so. Once in a lifetime opportunity. Virgil, thank you for always making me feel special when you wrote me a text, found time for me to hang out, or sent me some shoes with my name on them. I adore you to the moon and back. Until we cross paths again, my friend. I hope you realize what you’ve accomplished. You had an indelible impact on the globe. You were the one who did it. Virgil, I adore you. My friend, I bid you farewell. Rager, it’s your brother.
Many artists performed during Virgil Abloh’s farewell Louis Vuitton fashion presentation on Tuesday night, including Cudi. He also played “Moon,” his and Ye’s Don Toliver collaboration from Donda.
