Most of us have real-life neighbors, but some of us also have virtual neighbors. Snoop Dogg, for example, just acquired a new virtual neighbor who paid nearly half a million dollars for the right of owning virtual territory adjacent to Snoop’s.
Snoop owns real estate in The Sandbox, which is described as “a virtual world where players can build, own, and monetize their gaming experiences in the Ethereum blockchain using SAND, the platform’s main utility token.” On December 2, a sale of virtual spaces near Snoop’s was launched to commemorate Snoop’s Sandbox presence. During that sale, a plot next to Snoop’s was purchased for 70,903.8222 SAND, which was worth about $458,038 at the time of purchase. The current value of the SAND used to make the purchase is about $382,906 as of this publication.
Snoop shared a tweet about the purchase and wrote, “Won’t u be my neighbor.”
According to The Sandbox’s website, Snoop is now beginning a substantial collaboration with the platform. The rapper is constructing a replica of his real-life estate near Diamond Bar, California, as well as a venue for concerts and other live events.
