The Washington Wizards were one of the hottest teams in the NBA early in the season, but have since cooled off, dropping three of their last ten games heading into Wednesday night’s road trip to Detroit.
The Pistons, who have the poorest record in the Eastern Conference, seemed to be a wonderful opportunity to get back on track, which seemed desperately needed for a squad that has seen its early-season optimism vanish, with talk once again focusing on the future of the franchise’s superstar, Bradley Beal. The Wizards didn’t have an easy day in Detroit on Wednesday, falling behind early and having to rally in the third quarter only to see the Pistons force overtime, but they did get the win thanks to some heroics from Kyle Kuzma.
Kuzma, who led the Wizards in scoring with 26 points on the night, found himself with the ball in the corner as the clock approached zero and hit a game-winning three for the second time this season.
While Washington was anticipated to win this game, it’s a major win and vital result for a club that’s been on a losing streak, moving them to 15-11 on the season. Washington wanted to see something positive happen since they have a challenging schedule ahead of them, with the Jazz visiting the city before embarking on a six-game road trip that will begin in the West.
