During a break with the Rockets trainer during the Houston Rockets’ Wednesday night game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, head coach Stephen Silas left the bench to return to the locker room.
The cause was unclear at first, but it was soon revealed that Silas had to quit the game due to dehydration. Silas was receiving fluids in the back after not feeling well on the bench, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
For the time being, Silas has been replaced as head coach by assistant and former NBA head coach John Lucas. Lucas was the Cavaliers’ head coach from 2001 to 2003 until being fired before the start of LeBron James’ rookie season. Since then, he hasn’t been a head coach and has been with the Rockets since 2016.
Overall, Houston’s performance in Cleveland was not encouraging. The Cavs lead the Rockets 69-38 at halftime, with the Rockets shooting 30 percent from the field and 12 percent from three, as one of the NBA’s hottest teams has cooled out in Cleveland. The bigger concern is for Silas, who will hopefully feel like himself again after receiving fluids, as his work in putting Houston back on track has been tremendous over the last two weeks.
