Long-time psychedelic space rock lyricist and singer-songwriter John J. J. The lead single, “Always Together With You,” was released last November by Spaceman (née Jason Pierce), and it buzzed with the nostalgia of Spiritualized’s seminal 1997 album, “Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space.” And now, Spaceman and Spiritualized have released the second offering from Everything Was Beautiful, the gorgeous folk of “Crazy.”
It continues to create anticipation for the album due out next month, thanks to country strings and the vocal harmonies of Spaceman and Americana mainstay Nikki Lane. Spaceman directed the video, which was partly inspired by Andy Warhol’s Kiss, a 1963 film. Spaceman recorded the album at 11 different studios, including his house in London, and played 16 different instruments.
“I felt like I’d been in training for this my whole life,” Spaceman said of recording with a number of partners in a variety of locales throughout the epidemic. “There was so much information on it that the slightest move would unbalance everything, but circling around in circles is vital to me.” Rather than spiraling out of control, you’re going round and round, holding on to the positive with each revolution. Sure, you make errors, but you learn from them and that’s how you kind of… succeed. “Well, you’ve made it.”
