On January 7, The Weeknd released his new album Dawn FM, which is likely to be the biggest album of the year thus far. Timbaland, on the other side, believes it is one of the greatest albums ever made.
The producer compared the album to Michael Jackson’s Thriller in a video uploaded on Instagram of him listening to it and taking a few takes.
Timbaland stated, “This record is unique.” “Hey, this is— right here, on some Thriller s—.” Believe me when I say this. And kudos on the way he dropped this s—.”
Timbaland’s take was not well received by the masses, who soon informed him.
“You comparing it to the greatest album of all time……just raised the bar too high timbo,” an Instagram user said under the video.
“The album is good, clearly inspired by thriller,” a Twitter user said. “But no, it is not definitely the ‘next thriller’ and the Weeknd is not the ‘next MJ.’ Every time an artist drops something, the comparisons with MJ start!! Leave the king in his throne where he belongs and stop comparing.”
With Quincy Jones playing on the interlude and the album having connections to Jackson, comparing the two would be a stretch, especially given it hasn’t been a week since it was released.
