Minnie Mouse has worn her beloved polka dot dress for over a century, but for the month of March, she’ll be wearing a Stella McCartney pantsuit!
Minnie’s new design was made to honor both International Women’s Day and Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary, both of which will be commemorated next month, according to CNN. McCartney chose the design as a testament to “her legacy of female leadership” and women’s empowerment, according to a news release regarding the decision.
“Minnie has always had a special place in my heart,” McCartney said. “We share the same values and what I love about Minnie is that she personifies happiness, self-expression, authenticity…plus she has such great style.”
According to McCartney, Minnie’s new style is a blue tuxedo with black polka dots and a matching bow fashioned from “responsibly sourced textiles.” She also expressed her hope that Minnie’s pantsuit will become her character “a symbol of a new generation’s growth and empowerment.”
On the heels of Mars giving the green M&M’s picture a makeover of her own, Minnie’s makeover has been announced. Her fluttering eyelashes and a white pair of heeled boots were among the feminine features that the green M&M was known for. To be more inclusive, the candy firm declared that she will wear a pair of tennis shoes in the future.
Despite the fact that the green M&M’s new style appears to be permanent, Minnie is only wearing her tuxedo for the month of March.
