A University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is hosting a series of studies to help with medical research that will benefit others in Third World countries while educating you on your own anatomy. So I myself, recently signed up to do a birth control study and I will have made around $470 altogether once I complete the 6-month study.
It works like this, first, check out Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Facebook page to stay up to date on what studies are available.
Then after you find a program that you qualify for and are interested in moving forward with, you contact them to do a preliminary phone interview to see if you can get accepted. Hopefully, you will move forward to getting enrolled in that study of your choice!
As for me, my process went like this, once I was confirmed I could do the study, they informed me to let them know when I had started my menstrual cycle because they wanted to start the study seven days after I was done with my period.
So on my first visit I went through the screening and enrollment procedures which included obtaining personal information such as reading the consent form, asking questions if I had any concerns, then I had to do a questionnaire about my sexual, medical, and menstrual history. I was given a physical, samples were collected from my pelvic exam and then at the very end I was given my birth control. Then at the end of the 3-hour visit I was given a pre-loaded debit card with my portion of completion monetary value on it, so on my next visit, a little bit more money will be added onto it until I complete the whole study.
The best part is I was refunded for my bus fare, they validate parking, and they give you all these cool freebies, like these fancy flavored chocolate bars, a key chain and at any time I can voluntary remove myself from the study, which I won’t because I am not a quitter. 🙂
