When Apple came up with a marketing strategy for the Mac, it was designed to hit the PC where it hurts, on the cool-o-meter. Dubbed the “Get a Mac” campaign, the ad series featured over 100 clips running in various parts of the world that came to define the coolness of owning a Mac over a PC.
Now Apple are being given a dose of their own medicine by Samsung in the new Samsung Galaxy S2 ads, which apparently target the same coolness theme that Apple used so effectively against the Windows PC.
In a press release that did not dwell so heavily on the features, Samsung said:
A 60-second television spot will also air during the Thanksgiving-day NFL games on FOX and CBS, with kick-off times at 12:30pm ET and 4:15pm ET, respectively. The ad will also run on Saturday during televised college football. 15- and 30-second versions of the ad will run on the major broadcast and cable networks from now until Christmas Day.
Here is the Samsung ad and I’ve pulled up one from the Apple Get a Mac ad campaign. The irony is hilarious.
