Yet another rap star was at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show and this time he was not launching a set of celebrity earphones but still with some real shizzle. LL Cool J beat off critics with some quick quips when asked whether he was just going to launch another set in the already arduously long line of celebrity earphones. LL was instead at the show to launch what he calls the Boomdizzle Virtual Recording Studio, a set of web based tools that allow music makers to collaborate remotely to make music, which he was launching in partnership with Dolby.
LL assented that the reason why he thought of a virtual recording studio is because inspiration to make music often showed at the least convenient times when he was in LA and his sound guy is in New York. This made it had to collaborate on tracks on the fly. He went on to say the studio would make it easy to exchange ideas and sample different aspects of a track in real time in addition to video interactive tools such as video chat. The web application will not only be targeted at mainstream artists but also at upcoming artists who will find it easier to collaborate with friends on tracks or just have some fun doing a karaoke gig online.
LL notes that the when the software is launched, it will be priced to accommodate all levels of users with pay-as-you-go and subscription accounts as well as a basic free account for those who may not need the advanced features. According to the rap/actor, he wants to make sure that as many people have access to it as possible, and he also wants to make sure that it does well as a business. The Virtual Recording Studio will provide the digital production, mixing and sound tools for artists to create music. To demonstrate the technology, he recorded a song Tuesday in front of an audience at CES while his engineer was in New York
