Apple said in a statement yesterday that it sold 3 million new generation iPad devices over the début weekend, the most the company has sold over a single weekend in its history. Apple said that they not only smashed their weekend record but also their single day record, which the new iPad sales surpassed in an unprecedented outcome.
Apple has continued to exceed expectations with their devices, especially the iPad and iPhone and CEO Tim Cook said that at the rate things are advancing, tablet sales will soon exceed PC sales. The iPad has been Apple’s second most successful device after the iPhone and continues to generate massive revenues for the Cupertino California company.
The company also announced on the same day that it would be instituting a $2.65 quarterly dividend to shareholders as well as starting a stock buyback program worth $10 billion. CEO Cook has been working towards creating a different sort of Apple, some may even argue a better type of Apple than what founder Steve Jobs left.
Tim Cook has been putting in place some small but interesting changes such as changing the uniform workers use, introducing employee perks related to Apple products, among others. The new device initially went on sale in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, the U.K., U.S. Virgin Islands and Hong Kong. On March 23, it goes on sale in 24 additional countries.
