On May 16 MTV will be launching a new website dubbed a “homestead for artists”, which will bring together fans and artists on a single simplified platform. The entertainment group said in a blog post that it was working on creating a platform that would better serve artists and fans without having to go through all the clutter that the Internet often brings up.
The platform, which will be built on the Topspin direct-to-fan platform, will enable artists to kick-start their music careers with a full set of tools offering them ways in which they can gain more fans as well as make money from their music and popularity.
“With Artists.MTV, we want to make music history accessible, open a door to today’s musicians and spotlight the best new music by giving the millions of fans our brands connect with every day access to the most compelling performances, interviews, reviews, artist favorites and whatever else artists elect to port,” said Van Toffler, president of Viacom’s Music Group
Artists who sign up on the platform will have the opportunity to be featured across the company’s screens including MTV, VH1, CMT across web, mobile and TV. Select artists will also have an opportunity to take part in what MTV is calling “Full Frontal” where MTV will select artists based on their fan base, activity, and so on, and then feature them across all eleven Viacom Music Group’s TV channels in addition to being featured on the company’s digital channels.
For fans, this is what the Viacom chief had to say, “there is infinite choice out there, but with this artist platform, we want to provide a meaningful road map for consumers to weed through the chaos, and discover the musical gems that should break through.”
The platform promises a lot in terms of simplifying the artist-fan interaction as well as making it easy for new artists to create their own road-map to success simply and with the support of such an industry stalwart as MTV.
