Mariah Carey and James Packer are officially engaged according to a statement that the couple released earlier today.
Packer, a 48-year-old Australian businessman, arrived in New York last night to have dinner with Mariah, close relatives and friends. At the end of the dinner, he proposed to Mariah with a 38 carat diamond ring after less than a year of dating.
For Mariah, one of the most influential pop singers of the past two decades, this will be her third marriage. The singer first got married to Tommy Mottola, a talent scout, in 1993. They divorced in 1998. From 2008 until 2015, Mariah was married to Nick Cannon and the couple had two children together, twins Moroccan and Monroe.
James Packer has also been married before. The billionaire businessman was married to fashion designer Jodhi Meares from 1999 until 2002. He then got remarried to Erica Baxter, an Australian singer and model, from 2007 until 2013. James and Erica had three children together.
Despite this being the third marriage for both Mariah and James, the couple is in love and optimistic about their future together. Mariah and James spent a very passionate summer together in 2015 where the couple were seen together traveling the world on James’ yacht while looking very much in love.
