“Damien,” follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the 1976 horror film, The Omen, who has grown up seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him. The new series will premiere on A& E after Bates Motel on March 7 at 10 PM ET/PT.
So I just watched the screener and here are my thoughts on the show. Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny — that he is the Antichrist.
It opens up with Damien Thorn (Bradley James) throwing a rosary at Jesus on a cross inside a church, then flash backwards to 3 days earlier in Syria doing war-photojournalism, and then arm forces come into the camp area and start arresting the refugees. In the midst of the chaos, an old strange Syrian woman grabs Damien and tells him something eerie and creepy, which later in the show episode turns out to be his baptisms. “In the book of Matthew Jesus was baptized by his cousin John the Baptist and then a voice from the Heavens spoke.”
So now the saga begins as the anti-christ Damien, just like Jesus must begin his ministry work whether he likes it or not. Well only time will tell from the upcoming episodes if Damien will come to terms with his true identity because as he begins to discover his past with flashbacks, traumatic events, strange occurrences and meetings from people who know him, but he can’t remember anything about them, enters Ann Rutledge (Barbara Hershey) a powerful woman who has been tasked with making sure Damien fulfills his destiny as the Antichrist, strangely knows a lot about him.
Then you also have that infamous black Rottweiler, mixed in with imagery from the original footage from The Omen. All while two people die in the series premiere and then remember that old woman I mentioned at the beginning of this article? Well, she strangely makes it to NYC where Damien lives and grabs a hand full of his hair, revealing the Devil’s mark, 666!
Then the episode goes off…So I will tune in for the next showing, only to see if Damien will become a demon or fight off his destiny.
Who knew finding your roots could be so deadly and this must be the only family tree that hangs upside down!
