All soccer fans from around the world are witnessing some of the best football played in this year’s FIFA world cup. Top players from around the world participated in this world cup. Legends like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo played their part too.

This world cup has been vastly different from past World Cups due to the many upsets we’ve witnessed.

Let’s discuss the top 5 teams who have performed below their usual standards in this year’s edition of the tournament.

Germany

Germany has to be the number 1 team on the list of the teams who has played the worst in this year’s World Cup. Yes, you heard it right. It’s the Mighty Germans who were the defending champions, but they were unable to get through to the knockout stages due to their poor performance.

They were defeated by the resilient Mexico team 1-0 in their first group match. They won Against Sweden with a late equalizer from a free kick from Tony Kroos. In their last group match against South Korea they needed a victory to go through but they lost 2-0.

Their experienced players were not able to play well and their fans were left in anger due to this poor display.

Spain

Spain is another team who played poorly. They have a star-studded team with all the top players around the Spanish league Laliga.

The likes of Sergio Ramos, Pique, Iniesta and Diego Costa played below their standards. They only won one match against Iran with a 1-0 final score and they drew with Portugal and Morocco. They were knocked out in the round of 16 from a comparatively weak team, Russia, on penalties.

Argentina

Lionel Messi had a dream to win a world cup with Argentina and this was probably his last chance, but he failed as Argentina played poorly. Several World Cup betting sites had them easily listed as being one of the favorites going into the tournament, which adds even more salt to the wound of them losing.

Messi was able to score only one goal which helped them win against Nigeria in a must-win group match. Their defense and midline played at its worst in this World Cup which was destroyed by France in the round of 16 matches, as they came back from behind to win 4-3 comfortably.

Their coach and players both failed to perform which led them to an early exit.

Colombia

Colombia was another team everyone was looking forward to in this world cup. They failed to live up to the expectations. They had some very good players and they performed very well in the 2014 world cup.

They played below standards in the group games and lost to England in the round of 16 on penalties. They had the potential to be in the last 4 teams of the world cup but they got out very early as their players played poorly.

Egypt

Muhammad Salah did his best to take Egypt to the big stage and many fans around the world expected better results from Egypt in Russia this year.

Despite having the injury in the final of the champion’s league, Salah went to Russia half fit and missed the first match, which Egypt lost to Suarez and men with a final score of 1-0.

In the last two group matches, Salah did play but Egypt was unable to win. They even lost to a very weak Saudi Arabian team, which was a big surprise for everyone as Saudi Arabia was not given a chance to win any match.

So, these are some of the talented teams going around in the soccer world but they are in our top 5 list of worst performing teams due to their poor show in Russia Soccer world cup 2018.
