Election officials are gearing up for a massive recount in Florida, a state very familiar with causing election hiccups and the county in question is none other than Broward County.
Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum conceded the race for governor after being down 0.52 percentage points behind Ron DeSantis. However, with post-Election Day votes coming in from Broward County, that margin has narrowed to less than 43,000 votes, about 0.2 percentage points, which falls within the legal margin of a recount.
There is no solid number of ballots left to be counted, but it’s believed that there are tens of thousands. Election officials have until noon Saturday (Nov. 10) to report the unofficial results to the state. An Elias machine recount would be finished by Thursday (Nov. 15) and a manual recount would be completed by Sunday. (Nov. 18)
And while 39-year-old Gillum did concede to DeSantis, unless Gillum formally declined the recount, it would proceed if approved, and per his social media account, Gillum hasn’t given up on bringing it home just yet.
While Gillum’s conceded the race for governor in Florida, Stacey Abrams addressed her supporters stating that she’s not leaving until every vote is counted.
