Inspired by how grateful TolumiDE is for her friends, the phrase “Ore Mi” which means ‘My friend” in Yoruba, is consistently repeated throughout the song’s chorus. A creative spirit by nature, TolumiDE once dreamed of a career in graphic design. At the age of 18, while studying Fine Art at York University, she sang in an all female reggae band and eventually embarked on a solo career. Soonafter honing her skills performing at open mics, festivals and weddings, TolumiDE quickly garnered a following for her vast songwriting skills and candy coated vocals, which set the tone for her 2010 debut album, My Love. With it’s eclectic sound, the album has earned many accolades including a Nigerian Entertainment award for Best Female R&B artist, and a music video nomination for Channel O’s Most Gifted R&B award.
Exploring themes of love, life, laughter and inspiration fused with soul and her Nigerian heritage, TolumiDE aims to rejuvenate soul music with a crisp, indigenous sound that apprises listeners about African culture, while delivering melodic yet, affectionate grooves to audiences young and old.
