The DMV’s own Vinnie Boi has a question for you: Are you pleased with the person that you see in the mirror? In a world where the peaks and valleys of life can take us to places where we could possibly lose our identities, Vinnie serves as our melodic guide to prevent this from happening.
Released on March 27th, 2020, “What’s Up” is not just another radio friendly hip hop track that we can dance to. With 90’s inspired lyricism that exudes self-assurance, the upbeat hip hop groove reflects his personal quest towards self-recognition and is also a wake-up-call for listeners.
“This track was inspired by my Aunt who said, if you ever get to the point where you don’t recognize yourself in the mirror, you have a lot of work to do to find yourself”. “For a duration of time I didn’t know the person I saw in the mirror,” Vinnie Boi reflects. “The term ‘What’s Up’ was the first thing I said to myself.”
After spending years doing artist development for other artists, Vinnie noticed his passion for the art more than ever before. After gaining inspiration from fellow hip hop artist Young Dro, Vinnie began to take his music career more seriously. After creating his first mixtape, MY CD, Vinnie went on to perform in a plethora of popular venues including Atlanta’s Club Crucial. Soon after, had the opportunity to perfect his stage presence opening for Louisiana rapper Boosie Badazz in Columbus, GA.
On a constant quest to grow consistently, Vinnie feels he hasn’t created his best work as of yet. Through his self discovery, hard work and dedication, he will only get better as the years go by.
