Son of NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Adam Abdul-Jabbar, has been charged with numerous felonies in the alleged stabbing of a neighbor.
The incident occurred back in June and led to San Clemente, CA police arresting the 28-year-old. Now he is facing nearly 10 years in prison.
The victim, a 60-year-old man, asserts the attack happened after he’d asked the basketball legend’s son to assist his grandmother with the outdoor trash cans. Apparently this is something that ticked off Abdul-Jabbar.
After the alleged stabbing, the man was left with grave injuries, including a fractured skull and bleeding brain.
The victim has filed a civil lawsuit against Abdul-Jabbar since the attack, also claiming he nearly died from so much blood loss due to the argument. In addition to the suit, Abdul-Jabbar was recently hit with three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one felony of carrying a dirk or dagger, and three enhancements of inflicting great bodily injury. If convicted on all counts, Abdul-Jabbar faces nine years and eight months in prison.
On Tuesday, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer stated, “A dispute between neighbors should never escalate to violence, much less the ruthless nature of this attack. Violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Orange County and those who choose to inflict violence on others will be prosecuted by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office to the fullest extent of the law.”
