On social media, there has been discussion about this year’s lack of “album of the summer” entries. For what it’s worth, this is most likely due to the world slowly reopening and artists preferring to save future entries for the right time, whenever that might be. However, the more than fifteen-month shutdown is gradually coming to an end, and the hottest days of summer are just around the corner. With that said, City Girls appear to have arrived with a surefire summer anthem in the form of their recently released track “Twerkulator.”
Fans of the rap duo have been requesting the song for a long time. The song was expected to be on City Girls’ last album, City On Lock, but the track was leaked before the duo could finish it and promote it as they wanted. Early this year, a snippet of the song surfaced on social media, piqueing the interest of fans who were eagerly anticipating its publication.
Unfortunately, Yung Miami announced that their song “Twerkulator,” which samples Afrika Bambaataa and Soulsonic Force’s “Planet Rock,” will not be released due to a sample clearance problem. For many, this was disappointing news, but less than two months later, City Girls made a great announcement earlier this week, revealing that the track would be released in just a few days.
Its uptempo production sits right in the pocket that houses some of the City Girls’ best work.
