People who know Donald Trump well — and have managed to stay out of his sphere — don’t appear to hold him in high regard. His niece, Mary Trump, published an entire bestseller about him, with the subtitle “the world’s most dangerous man.” She recently stated unequivocally that if he had to, he would put his children under the bus to protect him from the government. Another individual who knew the former president well, Michael Cohen, his ex-lawyer, is now saying the same thing.
According to Raw Story, Cohen — who is presently spending time in home confinement for actions he took on behalf of an old client — gave a wide-ranging interview to The Lincoln Project, a group of anti-Trump Republicans who banded together to prevent him from seeking re-election. They were talking about the expected indictment of Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg, as well as the chance that someone in the Trump family, even the big guy himself, could go to jail.
Cohen then told a story to his audience. It was a topic he discussed in his 2020 autobiography Disloyal, but it never got traction. That’s fantastic because it’s quite juicy: Cohen detailed a conversation he had with Trump in which the president asked aloud what he would do if he had to choose a child to imprison. If the choice was between Ivanka and Don Jr., Trump reportedly chose Don Jr. because he “can take it.”
The Trump children have remained loyal to their father through thick and thin, although Tiffany and Barron keep a low (or, in the latter case, non-existent) profile. But here we have two separate people in the know telling us their loyalty to him doesn’t matter that much.
During the lengthy conversation, Cohen revealed a lot more. When asked how Trump felt during the January 6 uprising, he opined that he probably loved it, adding it was “better than sex.” He compared his 12-year boss to Jim Jones, the cult leader who poisoned his followers in Jonestown. He called Mar-a-Lago, where Trump spends the most of his time (apart from Milania and Barron, it appears), “an lunatic institution for tremendously affluent sycophants who want to sit there and pet Donald Trump’s big ass.”
He did debunk one common theory: Vladimir Putin’s mysterious, probably fake “pee tape,” a damaging footage reportedly used as a blackmail weapon. Cohen, on the other hand, doubts it exists because, in the words of Raw Story, “he would have been able to find it.”
Instead of facing the idea that his father dislikes him less than Ivanka, Don Jr. would most likely record some suspiciously pumped-up motel video to dispute Cohen’s charges.
