As the counsel in his own double-murder and attempted murder trial, Ronnie Oneal III went viral for his opening statement and witness questioning. Ronnie was accused of killing his children’s mother and their nine-year-old daughter, as well as attempting to murder his son, in 2018. According to Fox13 News, he was found guilty by a jury on Monday after only a few hours of deliberation. Ronnie was found guilty of two charges of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder by the jury. The trial lasted three years, with stunning moments including Ronnie questioning his surviving eleven-year-old son as a witness and his closing speech.
“I did kill Kenyatta Barron, but I want you to tell it like it is if you’re going to tell it,” Ronnie said during his closing statement in an attempt to convince jurors that police tampered with evidence and coached his son’s testimony.Ronnie was also found guilty of “arson, two counts of aggravated child abuse, and resisting an officer without violence.” Ronnie now faces the death penalty as a result of his conviction. Judge Michelle Sisco advised Ronnie to “consider permitting counsel to now step in and defend [him]” after the jurors had left. According to Fox 13 News, she also stated that they will meet on Tuesday morning “to discuss his choices on the sentencing part of the trial.” The jury heard the details of Ronnie’s horrible murder of his girlfriend Kenyetta Barron and his daughter Ron’Niveya, as previously reported. He was accused of using a shotgun to shoot and abuse Kenyetta, as well as slashing his daughter with a hatchet. His surviving son, Ronnie, was also stabbed before his father attempted to set fire to him and the house. After detailing how his father murdered his sister, the son testified that “there was blood everywhere” on the night of the double-murder.
