Sleater-Kinney will be able to do something that bands haven’t been able to do in a long time in August: tour in support of a new album. They have, however, had the opportunity to perform some of their new Path Of Wellness songs in advance, such as at their new Tiny Desk Concert, which was released today.
Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker performed a four-song set at Halfling Studio in Portland, where they made the album, that included the title tune, “High In The Grass,” “One Beat,” and “Worry With You.”
Fabi Reyna (of the bands Sávila and Reyna Tropical), Galen Clark (of Outer Orbit and Trio Subtonic), Vincent LiRocchi, and Bill Athens performed with the same backup band they used for their Late Show performance last month. So it’s probable that Brownstein and Tucker have decided on this lineup for their traveling and playing.
“We composed it last spring and summer, holed up in Portland, and recorded it in late summer and early fall,” the band previously said of Path Of Wellness. This is the first S-K album we’ve self-produced. The entire process relied upon taking stock of who and what was nearby, upon the generosity of time, spirit, and input, but mostly upon mutual love, need, and gratitude for making music.”
