Naomi Osaka, the remarkable four-time tennis champion, was just a matter of time until she was celebrated as part of the brand’s Barbie Role Models doll series, which features inspiring women from all over the world.
Osaka made a tweet on Monday to announce her collaboration “I hope every child is reminded that they can be and do anything,”
The doll was designed just like Naomi and features her wearing a Nike tennis dress, Nike shoes, visor and a Yonex tennis racket. As of yesterday the doll was sold out “Due to high demand.”
Osaka has had a significant national and international impact. According to CNN, she has been active in the Black Lives Matter movement while also exhibiting her Japanese heritage. She will be representing Japan at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
PARIS, FRENCH REPUBLIC 30th of May. On May 30th, 2021 in Paris, France, Naomi Osaka of Japan celebrates her victory after her match against Patricia Maria Tig of Romania in the first round of the Women’s Singles competition on Court Philippe-Chatrier at the 2021 French Open Tennis Tournament at Roland Garros.
One thing about Osaka is that she is a strong supporter of mental health. She withdrew from the French Open as a result of her stance, urging on the sport to better accommodate its participants. Taking a stand for her mental health, she says, was “all worth it.”
