Since supporters returned to arenas and stadiums, there has appeared to be an unusual number of pitch/field/court invasions, as fans appear to be overjoyed to be back at live sporting events.
The most recent of these occurred on Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, when the Angels were in town and a fan running around in the outfield caused a delay in the 7th inning. The fan proved to be a difficult man to apprehend, eluding every member of security stationed on the outfield in an attempt to apprehend him. The fan then returned to the right-field stands, where he appeared to have a chance to return to his seats — though we’ll never know what his strategy was from there.
That’s because the Dodgers ballgirl was on the scene, checking the fan over the wall and sending him flying headfirst into the seats while security apprehended him and escorted him away.
Although taking out field intruders isn’t part of the ballboy/girl job description, she wasn’t about to let this man waste any more of the game’s time trying to lead security on a wild chase through the stands, succeeding where security failed by simply checking him over the boards.
