Gov. Greg Abbott declared during a news conference that the state of Texas will commit to remove all rapists off the streets in order to prevent abortions.
He asserted that the state will strive tirelessly to apprehend all rapists by “aggressively arresting, prosecuting, and removing them from the streets.” In order to prevent abortions, Gov. Abbott stated that the objective is to entirely eradicate all rapists so that no one becomes a victim of the crime. “So the number one priority in Texas is to abolish rape so that no woman, no anyone, is a victim of it,” he stated.
The six-week abortion ban went into force on September 1, and there are no exceptions for rape or incest in the new law.
According to Insider, the law also empowers citizens to launch civil lawsuits for damages of up to $10,000 against abortion providers and those who “aid or abet” abortion. Moreover, despite the Supreme Court’s official confirmation of the new law, it has sparked widespread outrage.
