Taraji P. Henson opens up about her past experiences with abuse in an exclusive clip from the upcoming episode of the Facebook Watch series “Peace of Mind With Taraji.”
The 51-year-old actress recalls the moment she decided to leave an abusive relationship while speaking with co-host Tracie Jade and guest Angela Simmons:
“Sometimes, as women, we fall in love and think to ourselves, ‘You know what? ‘I’ll take care of it later,'” Henson elaborated. “That started with the bruises and grasping and stuff like that, so it was when blood was drawn for me.” And then, when the fist came — I still have a bit of my lip missing — I realized I had to leave.”
“I grew up around it,” she continued, “and when I had my son, I was like, ‘I don’t want my son around this.'”

This isn’t the first time the courageous actress has spoken out about her ordeal. She released her memoir, “Around the Way Girl,” in 2016, in which she first acknowledged her previous abusive relationship. She discussed it with ET at the time and said,
“You can find yourself in any bad situation in life,” she told the outlet. “Guess who it is up to to get out of it? You. That’s it. If you’re not chained to a wall and no one has a gun to your head and says, ‘I’m going to shoot you,’ where’s the power? You have the power.”
