Ted Cruz may have had a delightfully “evil” response to a group claiming to have uncovered the Zodiac Killer’s true identity, but his reaction to the Cancun-and-Snowflake themed Halloween costume hasn’t gone down so well. Sure, he’s being a little self-deprecating, but there’s a lot in his response that’s lacking. Let’s take a step back.
Rose Clouston, the Texas Democratic Party’s director of voter protection, and Steven Becerra, who came up with “the scariest thing we could think of,” came up with a pitch-perfect rendition, with Steven dressed up as Ted doing the Airport Walk of Shame after fleeing responsibility for his frozen constituents for a sunny Cancun vacation. Ted had left his dog, Snowflake, with a security guard, and the canine had been discovered alone at the front glass door of his house. Ted, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy himself.
“Ok, I laughed out loud at this one,” Ted merrily tweeted. “Snowflake had a wonderful Halloween, and he was thrilled to be remembered in a costume!”
To be fair to Cruz (I know), he may have decided that the best political play here was to demonstrate that he can, you know, laugh at himself. What a game! However, many people were curious as to why he found anything about this catastrophic circumstance — in which people physically froze in their houses — amusing. These replies would have been very different if he had even marginally recognized that he had made a mistake.
