After his wife discovered a series of text exchanges in which he discussed killing her and sharing her life insurance money with his lover, a Tennessee man was arrested.
Jerry McDonald’s two-year-old wife said she found the texts after her husband passed out from a night of drinking. She intended to call his workplace and inform them that he would be unable to work his afternoon shift, but she became aware of the messages shortly after. “Do I need to kill her?” McDonald asked Vanessa Nelson, 39. “Please murder her babe, please,” Nelson allegedly said. I’m pleading with you. I require your assistance. “I have a greater need for you.”
“I’m saying we kill her and I get a million and we live like the kings and queens we are,” McDonald later told Nelson, adding, “I’m saying we kill her and I collect a million and we live like the kings and queens we are.” Nelson responds, “So she has a million in life insurance.” Then let’s assassinate her,”
After McDonald claimed that her father had $1 million in his safe and conspired to steal from him, his wife said she was afraid for her life and called the cops.
McDonald served as a voluntary reserve officer with the Red Bank Police Department before his arrest, and the pair had known one other for 20 years prior to their marriage. He was given an administrative leave of absence.
McDonald is accused of soliciting murder in connection with the alleged murder plan.
