With the debut of Janet Jackson’s documentary “Janet, on Lifetime” on Jan. 28, it was virtually certain that someone would get a chance to ask her about the 2004 event that resulted to her being publicly embarrassed.
Things got a bit too hot on stage during Jackson’s Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake 17 years ago when she had a wardrobe malfunction that exposed one of her breasts. The incident was covered by some media publications in 2013, reminding viewers that, despite the fact that Timberlake mistakenly tore off the fabric, Jackson received the most of the anger.
After discussing what happened with Oprah Winfrey in 2006, Jackson said the interview would be “the first and last time that she ever talks about what happened that day.” Although she’s pretty much held that position, Jackson changed her mind and decided to make a small comment on the subject on Tuesday, Jan. 11.
“What’s really crucial is going back to having that foundation,” she told Allure. God, not just family. That’s what truly helped me get through the day. It’s difficult for me to talk about that experience.”
Jackson tried to ignore the subject at the time, hoping that people would move on. The 55-year-old, on the other hand, has a different perspective now that it’s being brought up again. “No matter whether I want to be a part of that conversation, I’m part of it.” It’s vital, in my opinion. In my opinion, but also in the opinion of other people. “
So, I believe it’s vital that conversation has been had, concluded the multi-Grammy-award-winning performer. You see what I’m getting at? And, as you can see, things have changed for the better since then.”
In today’s world, society’s perceptions on sexuality and gender have changed. Taking control of one’s body or femininity is valued by women. When women claim to be treated differently than their male colleagues, many come to their aid.
As a result, many people urged for Justine Timberlake to be held accountable and apologize to Jackson when the Jackson Super Bowl incident was re-evaluated last year. His former Britney Spears apologized to him for portraying her as a negative person during their breakup, which he did in February.
“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and worries,” he continued, “and I’d like to answer.” The times in my life when my actions contributed to the situation, when I spoke out of turn, or when I did not speak up for what was right, I am terribly sorry for. I recognize that I fell short in these and many other situations, and that I benefitted from a system that tolerates misogyny and racism.”
In addition, the 40-year-old. And I know I failed, therefore I want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson individually, because I care about and respect these people.
