Mel Monaco’s song “Love Tides” has a funky 70s sound mixed with ’90s pop girl band (reminiscent of the Spice Girls). But while the music is bouncy and fun, and Monaco’s voice matches it well, the lyrics just don’t meet how good of the rest of the song works. As Monaco sings about “sunshine,” “good vibes,” and “blue skies,” it feels very happy — which I’m sure is the point — but it’s missing just a bit of punchiness or variation that could make this song go from good to great.
Overall, it’s a breezy song that’s worth a listen.
