Recording artist John Legend was on hand to kick off Marine Toys for Tots holiday toy drive as well as to, celebrate the opening of Bowlmor Lanes newest location in the heart of New York City’s Times Square on Thursday December 2. The event was organized by New York City based publication Gotham Magazine. Legend arrived at the bowling alley for the event with supermodel girlfriend Christine Tiegen, and spoke about his most recent Grammy nominations, telling reporters, “Yeah five of them I’m happy. It‘s always nice to get nominated for Grammys. It‘s the most important music show. You never take it for granted– it’s cool.” About what to expect from him in the future Legend mentioned, “Hopefully some Grammys, We’re looking forward to the holidays, taking a break, relaxing, then back to making some good music.” Also Legend spoke about his bowling experiences in which he stated, “Well we bowl a lot together. We went through this phase when we bowled a lot together on tour. We would go to any local bowling alley we could find, but it kinda faded after a while.” Teigen interjected that they had a peak bowling period, then they had a period of a downturn. “Then after a while we kind of faltered, and we were over it.” Legend added. “But now we’re trying to rekindle [that] tonight.”
Other celebrity guest who came out in support of the toy drive and opening included model Brittny Gastineau, model Somaya Reece– who is set to star in VH1’s upcoming reality tv series Love and Hip Hop as well as making her debut in the Broadway play Love Lies in Lust, and producer and recording artist Sean Garrett who has worked with some of the biggest hip hop and pop stars around today including Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Justin Bieber and Brittney Spears spoke about his upcoming album, as well as working on superstar Beyonce’s highly anticipated upcoming album, stating that the album is gearing up to be the singer’s biggest to date.TheUrbanTwist.com asked Garrett if he was working with any up and comers, but stated at current time he is working with already established artist, although in the future he would definitely like to work with some up and comers. Gotham Magazine Editor in Chief Samantha Yanks, greeted both guest and media thanking those in attendance for coming.
Over a thousand guest showed up in which each guest in attendance was asked to donate a toy for the Marine Toys for Tots drive. Guest were also treated to samples from celebrity chef David Burke, who prepared an array of dishes and desserts for the occasion which included roast chicken, ham, macaroni salad, and a variety of freshly baked pastries.The ultimate goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate children that will help assist them into becoming responsible, productive citizens.
