Countdown to Wakandacon 2018

Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther” film led the way for many groundbreaking first, now get ready for the 1st Annual Wakandacon, which will take place August 3-5th, 2018, at Hilton Downtown, in Chicago Illinois.

Wakandacon was founded by Chicago native, David Barthwell along with his siblings Ali Barthwell and Matt Barthwell. According to the founders, “Wakandacon is a free space where you can be a nerd about anything – pop culture, gaming, tech, womanhood, politics, or your own beautiful Blackness.”

The 3-day event has a full lineup of informative panels, gaming, and cosplay. In addition, a few actors will be in attendance, such as, actor Mark Willis, an Oak Park, Illinois native who was featured in “Black Panther,” as a Jabari Warrior. The event will also include programs for kids, aspiring filmmakers, and community activist. In addition, the Wakandacon’s Cosplay contest will feature three categories: Experienced Cosplay, Beginner Cosplay, and Afro-Fashion, so get your outfit ready.

To attend, just go online and purchase a weekend badge for $35.00, each badge holder over 18 years old, can bring one child under 6 years old for free. Remember online badge sales end Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at noon CDT. If you are unable to attend in person, you can purchase a digital pass for $10. A digital pass will allow real-time remote access to live stream of select Wakandacon 2018 activities during the conference and the archived material after the conclusion of the event.
