Armed with her unique name that translates as “Thank God” in Yorùbá, Nigerian R&B artist TolumiDE aims to please with her heartfelt new single, “Beautiful”. With her revitalizing blend of Neo-Soul and Afro-Pop, the Toronto born, Lagos raised singer-songwriter is certainly poised to dominate cross-cultural airwaves. Submerged in her thick Nigerian accent, TolumiDE gently caresses the song’s amorous lyrics in the silkiest honey drizzled tone. Engulfed in warm hues of tropical melodies accented with utopian rhythms,“Beautiful” could be the soundtrack to any budding friendship or romance. The second single and follow up to her summer tune “Your Arms”, “Beautiful” serves as the perfect ode to that special someone who lifts our spirits when we need it the most.

Inspired by how grateful TolumiDE is for her friends, the phrase “Ore Mi” which means ‘My friend” in Yoruba, is consistently repeated throughout the song’s chorus. A creative spirit by nature, TolumiDE once dreamed of a career in graphic design. At the age of 18, while studying Fine Art at York University, she sang in an all female reggae band and eventually embarked on a solo career. Soonafter honing her skills performing at open mics, festivals and weddings, TolumiDE quickly garnered a following for her vast songwriting skills and candy coated vocals, which set the tone for her 2010 debut album, My Love. With it’s eclectic sound, the album has earned many accolades including a Nigerian Entertainment award for Best Female R&B artist, and a music video nomination for Channel O’s Most Gifted R&B award.

Exploring themes of love, life, laughter and inspiration fused with soul and her Nigerian heritage, TolumiDE aims to rejuvenate soul music with a crisp, indigenous sound that apprises listeners about African culture, while delivering melodic yet, affectionate grooves to audiences young and old. Be on the lookout for TolumiDE’s sophomore release Suya Soul which arrives in November 2019.
