Megachurch pastor John Gray, while he and his attorneys previously stated that he was a victim of extortion and blackmail, now apologizes to his church congregation & his wife for the “bad decisions” he made amid his cheating scandal.
Gray was in the center of a whirlwind last month of cheating allegations when a woman, named “Mary,” claimed to have been communicating with hi, alleging that they had done a myriad of things together, like sharing photos, talking about his wife’s cooking and more.
After claiming extortion, Gray, who is lead pastor at Relentless Church in Greenville, South Carolina, and associate pastor at Joel Osteen‘s Lakewood Church in Houston, uploaded a video on Sunday (Aug. 31) issuing an apology to his wife and his parishioners, telling them he was undergoing extensive counseling and seeking guidance of other pastors.
Specifically, to his wife, Aventer, he shared, “Aventer, I am sorry for the pain I have caused you, and my prayer is that the life I live from this moment will be one worthy of the love that you extended that our family receives from. I am grateful for you and our children.”
To the church, he stated, “To my church, I am sorry. You’ve gone through enough – from cars, to meetings with leaders that have caused great pain and deep division among political ideologies to one thing after another. I want to tell you I’m sorry.”
He also added, “There are people who may never listen to me preach again, and I am so very sad about that. I also believe this moment will call more people to repentance unto salvation. In that, my pain will have been worth it.”
