Four months after he was released from prison, the man who recorded Eric Garner’s death has been arrested again on gun charges.
During a routine traffic stop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Ramsey Orta, 29, was arrested early Monday morning. An arrest report says NYPD officers pulled over Orta at the intersection of South 2nd and Roebling St around 2 am for driving with extremely tinted windows in his car.
While checking his vehicle, the officers allegedly found drugs and searched Orta after telling him to step out of the car. They said they found a 9mm handgun tucked into his waistband.
Orta was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm. Due to being a convicted felon, he is not permitted to hold a gun and he was also wanted for questioning in relation to a domestic violence case.
Back in May, Orta was released from the Franklin Correctional Facility after serving four years for drug and gun-related convictions. He thought his conviction was in retaliation from police after he recorded Eric Garner’s death and uploaded it online in July 2014.
‘The cops had been following me every day since Eric died, shining lights in my house every night.’
