Remember this: the first A Quiet Place 2 trailer debuted on January 1, 2020, in case you’d forgotten what’s been going on in the world lately. The sequel, directed by John Krasinski, was supposed to hit theaters in March 2020, but as we all know, things went wrong, and the film now has a May 28, 2021 release date. And Emily Blunt’s matriarch has been wearing the same dress from the birth scene the whole time, which is more than commitment. Let’s get this trailer started.
Krasinski previously starred in a Super Bowl commercial with a flashback theme, but it’s assumed that his character died after drawing alien attention to himself at the end of the first film. And now he’s back in a bigger position, holding citrus fruit as a sign of impending doom and walking past a Space Shuttle toy that might serve as a reminder of poor Beau’s death. We also see Emily Blunt’s character visit the place where Beau died, which is a lot of emotional cueing for what’s basically a hushed-then-loud trailer that’s all blockbuster-y (which is surprising given the first film was a sleeper hit) when calling for a return to theaters.
Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou also star as seasoned survivalists who are initially hesitant to support someone wandering around with a loud-mouthed boy. And it’s no wonder because not only are there monsters afoot, but the people who are left behind may have grown monstrous as well. I bet those people would be anti-maskers.
