The BET Awards in 2021 were full of unforgettable performances and viral moments, and Lil Nas X managed to have both at once. Lil Nas X stunned audiences when he closed his performance of his song “Call Me By Your Name” by deeply French kissing one of his male dancers and now he has replied to the criticism. Lil Nas X became one of the night’s top trending topics in a short of minutes after kissing his male backup dancer and absolutely dropping jaws.
The kiss ended his performance, which was inspired by Michael Jackson’s iconic “Remember The Time” video. In response to the intense backlash he received from those who felt that the kiss was inappropriate for younger audiences who were watching the show, Lil Nas X posted the following message to his Twitter account. “We are 4 months in and people are still acting surprised that I am being gay and sexual in performances of a song about gay and sexual s**t,” he tweeted.
As we previously reported, Lil Nas X certainly had the most viral moment of the BET Awards, but if his detractors expected him to apologize for upsetting anyone, they were incorrect, as he not only repeated his performance, but also promised more to come.
