At the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, Fergie performed the national anthem. While many others have gotten a lot of appreciation for their versions of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Fergie’s version, um, didn’t. Instead, cameras recorded a few people in the audience smiling – Draymond Green and Steph Curry both laughed, LeBron James and Kevin Durant seemed to appreciate it, and Chance the Rapper and Jimmy Kimmel both smiled from their seats.
The Warriors famously remade the song, dancing to it only days after Fergie’s ex-husband, Josh Duhamel, called Green a “prick” for laughing at it. The Fergamerican National Song has now been memorialized in the form of a children’s book, which takes the anthem and spells out the lyrics as they were sung by Fergie.
This is available for purchase, so while it would have been fantastic as a one-time creation for a bit on the internet, this is even better. Take Curry’s word for it, as the Warriors’ superstar heard about it and is a major fan.
Perhaps one day things related to this anthem will stop being funny, but today is very much not that day.
