As someone that has enjoyed some of the movies actress Alicia Silverstone has made over the years, the headline on this post may seem a little strange.
Then again, there were probably more than a few guys back in 1993 that would have taken pretty much any attention they could get from Silverstone when she played a promiscuous neighbor in the movie “The Crush” which also starred actor Cary Elwes.
Flash forward nearly 20 years later to a time when Silverstone is the proud mother of 11-month-old son Bear. Okay, the boy’s name could be an entire topic for another post.
It seems that Silverstone, a noted animal rights activist to boot, is not shy about sharing with the world that she oftentimes chews her son’s food in her mouth before serving it to him. Trust me; this is not exactly the breakfast in bed scenario that a guy could conjure up with Ms. Silverstone.
Silverstone recently posted a video to her health food Web site, TheKindLife.com, where she demonstrates how she prepares breakfast for her little one. According to comments from the actress, “I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite…and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!”
Okay, at least from what I can remember as a little one some four decades ago, I do not recall my mom doing likewise with me as I was seated in my highchair. Yes, I’m sure we played the game where the spoon was an airplane and my mouth was the airport runway, but even that is a tad too far tucked away in my memory bank to retrieve.
When I first heard of Silverstone’s means by which she feeds her child, I must admit I was a little taken aback.
After thinking it over, however, consider the fact that many babies get breast milk from their mothers (not sure if Silverstone has done this) and babies are always coming in contact with kissing parents and other relatives. Okay, you probably figured out where I’m going with this now, the potential germ factor.
We all know that the two groups of people most readily identifiable with having limited immune systems are infants and the very elderly. So, is Silverstone potentially putting her baby’s health at risk by chewing his food for him first in her mouth? I’m no medical expert by any stretch of the imagination, so I would not even venture to guess. As far as the “ick idea” being involved, yes, I would say that exists.
At the end of the day, little Bear may or may not look back on this video one day with either happiness or outright terror.
From all indications, Silverstone is a loving mother that puts her son first when all is said and done.
Given some of the stories we come across on a daily basis of mothers and how they’re verbally and/or physically abusing their kids, Silverstone’s story is certainly not one to be up in arms about.
Would I be okay with taking food straight from Silverstone’s mouth? Well, I can’t say that I have a great deal of experience in this area, but it could make for a great new celebrity reality television show.
Heck, I’m game if the actress wants to give it a shot.
Please, however, nothing with carrots or peas in it….
