Move over, Angelina Jolie-Pitt!
There’s another star lending her name to a very important cause these days.
Pop star P!nk has just recently been named as a UNICEF ambassador on Monday, with her mission already clear: promote physical activity in U.S. children. This is the same undertaking as current First Lady Michelle Obama, and the initiative seeks to raise awareness as well as money for vitamin-rich, nutritional peanut paste to be delivered to internationally. After seeing malnourished children in Haiti, the singer-songwriter was clearly affected. In a recent interview, she had this to say about the current plight of underprivileged children in Haiti:
“I got to watch mommas learning how to feed it to their kids. And within a week, you can see the difference in these children. It brings them back to life. It’s amazing. When you get to see it with your own eyes and you see that something works, then it’s a lot easier to get behind and advocate for it and try to make other people aware of it,” she said.
P!nk, whose real name is Alecia Moore, is working with the Kid Power app, which gives children information about the countries and cultures they are aiding and the ability to track progress online. According to her, it is an innovative way to stay in contact.
“They found a brilliant way, and a fun way, to get kids here involved and empowered and motivated. And they are also turning them into global citizens and they get to be hands-on.”
Naming P!nk as an ambassador is a natural fit for the athletic diva, who is known for performing live as she flies through the air on wires or strings.
