Cordae has a lot to be happy about. From A Birds Eye View, his first album in nearly three years, featured 14 tracks and guest performances from Lil Durk, Gunna, Roddy Ricch, Eminem, and others. It’s the latest strong performance from the DMV rapper, who’s also improved in other areas of his life. Cordae talked about the recent health adjustments he’s made during a recent interview on Los Angeles’ Real 92.3’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood.
Cordae began by explaining that he was inspired to lose 35 pounds due to a magazine shoot from last February. “I had to do a GQ cover,” he explained on the show. “I’m speaking my truth. I had to do a GQ cover and was like, ‘Man, if I don’t get in shape to do a GQ cover, what ever in life is gonna motivate you to get in shape? ’” He noted that he began his journey in November 2020 and said that it led to creating a healthier lifestyle for himself, which he maintains today.
During the first six to eight months of his trip, the rapper also said that he shed the “most of the weight,” which gave him a boost of confidence. He explained, “Like I said, I’m a little shallow.” ‘When you look good, you feel good,’ says the adage, ‘when you feel good, you do good,’ and ‘when you do good, you are paid well.’ ” It’s for this reason that it’s critical to be happy.”
Cordae’s comments came after he performed songs from From A Birds Eye View and his debut album, The Lost Boy, during an NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
